Florence was not the only stop for the Homme Plissé Issey Miyake brand’s Open Studio concept. The Japanese label is taking a new step in its exploration of the connections between fashion, art, and the creative process by unveiling the second phase of this project. Launched to rethink the traditional format of fashion shows and break free from strict schedules, this concept—which has no set timeline—relies on venues dictated by chance encounters, conversations, and the inspiration of the design team. For this second edition, the brand is partnering with the prestigious Tate Museum in London, infusing its famous pleated fabric with a unique contemporary aesthetic through a strong collaborative approach and visuals in vibrant hues. This new installment will feature a completely different format, entirely centered around a central work of art that will be revealed at a later date.

This initiative follows directly in the footsteps of the first Open Studio, held in June 2025 in Florencewhen the brand was the guest of honor at the Pitti Uomo trade show. Conceived as an invitation to a journey guided by the artist’s brush, this inaugural event consisted of two parts: a fashion show and an immersive exhibition that offered a behind-the-scenes look at the manufacturing process. This first experience helped forge a unique connection with the public by bringing together a local community of artists and creatives. By highlighting the creative process and sources of inspiration drawn from Italy’s natural and cultural landscapes, this approach laid the groundwork for a communication strategy in which pure creativity and human connection redefine how the brand is presented.
Launched in 2013, Homme Plissé Issey Miyake continues to carry on the legacy of technological innovation and sustainable design of its eponymous founder, who passed away in 2022. The brand stands out for its wrinkle-free, lightweight pieces designed for everyday wear, crafted using its unique process in which pleating is applied after the garment has been cut and sewn. Completely independent of major Western luxury conglomerates, the brand operates several flagship stores in Europe and has counters in department stores.
