Unveiled at 56, Via Savona, the ‘Icons by Icons’ project sees the Marche-based house of the Della Valle family reinterpret its iconic loafer through the aesthetic codes of four Italian masters of design.
The special unisex collection comprises four loafers, each inspired by a landmark work: Joe Colombo’s Elda armchair; Gaetano Pesce’s Crosby chair; the Kristall table designed by Michele De Lucchi for Memphis Milano, featuring the iconic Fantastic pattern; and the Brionvega RR226 Radiophonograph by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni.
These four interpretations of the Gommino are conceived as true collectors’ items, within a narrative that brings together creativity, style and Italian artisanal tradition.
The project was presented on April 21 at the opening of Milan Design Week, with an exhibition in which the loafers enter into dialogue with the original works. During the event, Tod’s artisans demonstrated live several key stages in the creation of the Gommino, including its signature hand-stitching.
The installation will remain open to the public until April 26, while the collection is available exclusively at Tod’s Via Montenapoleone boutique and on the brand’s website.
